Lots of actresses wore white :

I really like the first dress on the top row left , and the fourth one in the first row.  Jung Ryeo-won’s outfit (top row,3rd from left )is the worst!

And here are colorful dresses:

I think the hot pink dress is the best and most youthful, although it hurts my eyes to look at it. Especially since it clashes with the red carpet. lol!

PIFF is held annually in South Korea.

Korean Movie: My Little Bride

June 12th, 2009 § 1 Comment

While I think this movie’s premise is totally absurd, I quite enjoyed watching it. This movie is the Korean version of a 2002 Hong Kong movie called My Wife is 18.

Actors:

Moon Geun young– as Boeun

Kim Rae Woon–as Sang Min

Plot:

Boeun is a typical 15 year old student who has a crush on a baseball varsity player named Jung woo. One day, because of a pact their grandfathers made, she and Sang Min (who’s  college age), get married. Both are against the union at first, but they cannot go against their grandfather’s wishes. Being a rebellious teenager , Boeun refuses to go to her own honeymoon and even dates her school crush! She thinks she can hide her relationships, but in the end, she realizes that her husband is a good man and she is in love with him after all.

Thumbs up! :D

My Tutor Friend

Try to Google “Best Korean movies” and the title of this movie will come up in those lists. That’s how I came to know about this 2003 film.

But to me, this is not one of the best. It’s kinda boring really. And I don’t know why reviews keeps comparing it to My Sassy Girl.   I only watched it because Gong Yoo is in it. He’s the only person who gave some life into this movie in my opinion.  :p

The story is about a rich guy Kim Ji-hoon (Kwon San-Woo, the guy from the famous Stairway to Heaven drama) who got held back in high school when he should be already in college. His parents hire a tutor for him, a poor girl named Choi Su-wan (Kim Ha-Neul, the girl in the movie Almost Love which I plan to watch next ;) ). At first they hate each other. But then she stands up to him and tries to enforce some control over his study habits, and by this way the guy starts to change his mind about her.

I give this movie just 2 stars.

Heartbreak Library

Stars: Kim Eugene and Lee Dong Wook (Seol Gong Chan in one of my top fave Korean dramas, My Girl)

Jun-Oh (Dong Wook) is caught by Eun soo (Eugene) tearing out page 198 from several library books. He tells her of a sad story between him and his girlfriend and how she has disappeared , leaving him only a note saying  ” Look up page 198″ .  She decides to help him and they form some sort of friendship.

This is a sad movie, but at the same time it’s about hope and about how people overcome loss. I liked Dong Wook’s acting here and Eugene (it’s the first time I’ve watched her) isn’t too bad either. She played the character as some one confused but also very capable. She’s not whiny or pathetic at all.

Thumbs up! ;)

Antique Bakery

Main Actors:

Joo Ji Hoon (“Prince Shin” from Goong:Princess Hours) as Kim Jin Hyeok

Kim Jae Wook( “Sun Ki”/”Waffle guy” from Coffee Prince) as Min Seon Woo

Yoo Ah In  as Yang Ki Beom

Choi Ji Ho as Nam Soo Yeong

According to Wikipedia, this film “drew more than 1 million moviegoers within its first two weeks of release, making it one of the most successful Korean movies ever made”. It’s also based on a popular Japanese Manga created by Fumi Yoshinaga.

Ji Hoon’s character was kidnapped when he was nine years-old and somehow escaped after two months of captivity. 20 years later he is still suffering from post-traumatic stress and decides to open a cake shop, called Antique Bakery. One of his employees is the brilliant gay pattisier  Kim Jae Wook, they same guy  who confessed his love for him in high school, and an ex-boxer, played by Yoo Ah In. His “bodyguard” played by Ji Ho also helps out at the shop.

I fully expected Antique Bakery to be just some sort of “pretty boy” movie, and for the most part it is that. The other part is just hilariously absurd. :) Ji Hoon has gotten so much better since Goong. He looks more at ease on screen. Jae Wook really played the gay part to the hilt. I kinda had goosebumps watching the gay scenes with that French hottie. *lol* They made me uncomfortable. *lol* It was just too much for my innocent eyes. *lol* They attempted at giving some depth to the film, by inserting Ji hoon’s character’s personal mission and though I appreciated it, I still thought that it was a little out of place. But I still enjoyed watching this, so thumbs up. ;)

Seducing Mr. Perfect

June 4th, 2009 § 4 Comments

Daniel Henney (who was recently in the Hollywood movie Wolverine) and Uhm Jung Hwa stars in this romantic comedy.

The story is about Min-june, a woman who loves deeply but always finds herself being dumped by her partner. Driving alone one day, she bumps into a car and a man steps out of it – and it turns out to be her new boss, Robin Heiden.

Robin in a “master” in the game of love and he “teaches” June how to make herself more attractive to the opposite sex. Slowly but surely, the cold boss warms up to June’s charms and they fall in love.

It’s a very simple storyline, and the ending was completely predictable. But the pacing was ok.

Daniel spoke only a couple of lines in Korean and the rest were all in English! hahaha! He’s got star quality so that’s why he’s still popular in spite of not being able to speak fluent Korean. (A bit of trivia : His dad is British while his mom is Korean-American. His claim to fame was a role in a Korean Drama called ” My name is Kim Sam Soon”.  I haven’t watched the entire series yet , but I like what I’ve seen so far. )

Here’s a close up shot of Daniel:

And here he is showing off his sculpted body:

Dang! Those are nice abs! @___@

Anyway, what made me watch the entire movie was obviously the lead male star–he is HOT–there’s no denying that! There were lots of laugh out loud moments too. So all in all, I enjoyed Seducing Mr. Perfect. Watch it if you love Korean style romantic comedies. :)

My Sassy Girl (English Version)

November 8th, 2008 § 1 Comment

A friend of mine gushed all over the original movie when it first came out and she practically begged me to watch her DVD copy. It’s been what?–7 years since the release? It’s only now that  I’ve finally succumbed. HAHA! And it’s only on a whim.

Anyway, It is said that the Korean version is much better than the english one, — and I really hope so because as much as I like Elisha Cuthbert in this film (and her outfits too :D ), her co-star isn’t romantic lead material.

The movie is cute enough but not the kind I’d wanna watch again. Charlie really bugged me! That guy is such a doormat. Sweet, yes. kind, yes. But he’s got absolutely no balls compared  to Jordan Roark (Elisha Cuthbert)!

In reality, I think a guy would just dump somebody like Jordan because she is crazy (best birthday ever is almost getting shot at? )  and irrational ( she asks Charlie to walk all the way down the street to “tell him something” when she knows perfectly well he won’t be able to hear it) and she only thinks of herself!  I was completely disgusted when she barged in on Charlie’s meeting with a potential employer and got herself drunk! I can understand pain and grief, and what it can do to a person,  but potentially harming somebody else is totally outrageous in my book!

During a test to see how people would react to the film, most guys said they hated Charlie’s character!  He’s the main reason  why this movie went straight to DVD!lol! Asian people , however, find Charlie the doormat believable.Haha! I can actually think of several guys back in high school who fit the bill. :-p

Where Am I?
